What is V-Modell XT Core?

Smartpedia: The V-Modell XT Core is the name given to the four process modules used in all V-Modell XT project types. These are PM, QA, CM and problem and change management.

V-Modell XT Core – the central process modules in V-Modell XT

V-Modell XT defines process modules for encapsulating activities, products and roles. In tailoring, these process modules are determined as modular units using project types, project type variants, and project characteristics. The process modules that are used in all project types are called the V-Modell XT core. In total, the V-Modell XT core comprises only four process modules:

  • Project Management (PM)
  • Quality Assurance (QA, in German: Qualitätssicherung, QS)
  • Configuration Management (CM, in German: Konfigurationsmanagement, KM)
  • Problem and Change Management (in German: Problem- und Ă„nderungsmanagement, PA)

Without the use of these four process modules, a project is not V-Modell XT compliant. In other words, these four process modules must be used in every client (acquirer) project, in every supplier project and in every Acquirer/Supplier project.

Mandatory and optional process modules

Depending on the role in the V-Modell XT project – acquirer, supplier and supplier – in addition to the V-Modell XT core there are further process modules that are mandatory or optional.

In addition to the V-Modell XT core, the following mandatory and optional process modules are available for the system development project (acquirer):

  • Mandatory: definition of requirements, conclusion of contract (acquirer), delivery and acceptance (acquirer)
  • Optional: commercial project management, measurement and analysis, evaluation of finished products, multi-project management, system security

In the supplier system development project, in addition to the V-Modell XT core, there are the following mandatory and optional process modules:

  • Mandatory: contract conclusion (supplier), system creation, delivery and acceptance (supplier)
  • Optional: commercial project management, measurement and analysis, evaluation of finished products, system security, software development, hardware development, enhancement and migration of legacy systems, logistics design, usability and ergonomics

And in the acquirer/supplier system development project, in addition to the V-Modell XT core, there are the following mandatory and optional process modules:

  • Mandatory: definition of requirements, system creation, delivery and acceptance (acquirer), delivery and acceptance (supplier)
  • Optional: commercial project management, measurement and analysis, evaluation of finished products, system security, software development, hardware development, further development and migration of legacy systems, logistics design, usability and ergonomics
